BRAND METHOD ACTING

You wanna to uncover the main character of your brand? You’ll have to get into their mindset by stepping into their metaphorical shoes.

The first step: get a wig.

Just kidding (unless you have a wig, then go for it, I can’t stop you.)

WHY WRITING FROM A POV MATTERS:

Because personality prevails! When you talk like an actual person, people be like, “damn, this brand is relatable.

To help you think about how you want your sales copy to come across, you need to get into the mind of your target customer. Although this will be vital in writing copy that translates to your target demographic, clarifying your brand voice is also super cool.

We call that a win-win.

WHAT IS YOUR OFFERING?

  1. Is it a VIP Day?

  2. It is a new coaching thing?

  3. Is it a service?

  4. Is it a product?

METHOD COPYWRITING:

So you want to be the Meryl Streep of sales copywriting.

To be honest, I actually have no idea if Meryl Streep does method acting or is more of a Meisner method girl...either way, you’re here to talk copy.

Whenever I approach copywriting for any brand, I first ask myself: how can I make this brand talk like a human? After all, I’m a human helping brands market to humans.

How often have you read some overly sales-y copy, hit “archive” on that inbox, or clicked out of that internet window?

We’ve all been on the internet for a long time!

(It’s been 16 years since being “Rick Rolled” was a thing.)

People are tired of constantly being sold to.

CONSUMER PERSONALITY QUIZ

  1. First and foremost: who is your target customer? What is their age range? Where could they potentially live? What would their salary range be? Their educational experience or professional experience? Dig deep like you’re meeting your dream customer at a dinner party.

  2. What are their hobbies? Do they like to go roller skating on the weekends?

  3. What are three words you’d use to describe how they talk? (i.e., Warm, Adventurous, Analytical!) I love going here when I need some spicier words that evoke more meaning: https://www.thesaurus.com

  4. Then, try to go deeper! Are these “fat words” that don’t have a lot of meaning (i.e “Nice” like, when someone describes their partner as “nice” I immediately assume they’re boring.)

  5. Just as important, what is your target customer NOT (i.e. pretentious,

  6. What are some movies/ TV shows they’d love?

  7. If they were a celebrity, who would they be most like? (i.e., a healthy blend of Blake Lively & Susan Sarandon in her Step Mom era)

  8. What words would you use to describe the opposite of your ideal audience?

  9. I offer you $1,000 USD right now. In their own words, how would they say they’re going to spend it? Remember, them, not you.

  10. What are three values they hold near & dear to them?

  11. What things in the world would they be staunchly against (ex: the five-day workweek).

OK, now that we have a pretty great idea of who your perfect audience avatar is, let's sell to them:

SALE COPY QUESTIONS

  1. Why would they find your product or service useful?

  2. Why are you the right person to sell to them vs. the competition?

  3. How will their life change once they use your products?
